BBF.247 ONU Certification : Empowering Networks with Broadband Forum and MT2
Tournon-sur-Rhône, France – Mai 14, 2024 – MT2
In June 2020, the Broadband Forum announced the fourth issue of the BBF.247 ONU certification program, which expanded the test coverage to include XGS-PON ONUs as well as requirements from TR-280. TR-280 outlines the requirements needed for implementing G-PON, XG-PON and XGS-PON ONUs in the context of multi-service broadband networks as defined in the TR-178 architecture.
BBF.247 test library is an ONU conformance test-plan with a focus on classification, and QoS (VLAN tagging rules), ONU management monitoring (Alarms, Software Download, …) and Multicast. It aims to ensure ONUs maturity & compliance to market and operators’ requirements. It paves the way to integration and interoperability.
What does it test?
BBF.247 issue 4 includes more than 110 different conformance tests and applies to G-PON, XG-PON, and XGS-PON ONUs.
« It tests conformance to TR-156 using OMCI as defined in the ITU G.988, which are the most critical standards to interoperable implementations. The tests include verification of conformance regarding G-PON, XG-PON, and XGS-PON equipment functionality and the implementation of the OMCI. » – Broadband Forum.
Additional technological advancements are also being tested, including extended OMCI messages format, enhanced unicast and multicast operations, as well as capacity testing and performance monitoring.
What are the key advantages of using MT2 BBF.247 test library?
- 247 certification ensures product maturity and compliance to PON standards
- The latest extension of the test library adds new tests and a new ONU profiles
- It can be performed on all G-PON, XG-PON and XGS-PON ONU products
- MT2 BBF.247 test library is used to perform the official Broadband Forum BBF.247 ONU certification
MT2 has been a key contributor to the Broadband Forum effort in building PON devices requirements and test plan. The company has designed and developed an OLT emulator able to run all the BBF.247 tests and many more. Already 153 G-PON and 47 XGS-PON ONUs are certified by LANPARK with MT2 solutions.
